Asking whether a platform allows AI narration is the wrong question

Platforms differ on something more basic than permission: whether you may bring your own file at all. That splits the market in two before any rule about disclosure applies.

It takes the file you made

You upload finished audio and declare that it uses a synthetic voice. The platform adds a label to your listing. The narration you produced is the narration that ships.

It only offers its own voice

The platform generates the audio itself from your ebook and credits its own system as narrator. There is no upload route, so a file you made elsewhere cannot be used at all.

And a third group that takes neither

ACX requires human narration unless otherwise authorized, and lists unauthorized text to speech, AI, and automated recordings as prohibited. Produce before you check which group each destination is in, and you can finish audio that a large part of the market cannot structurally accept. The workbook names every platform, what it accepts, and what you have to declare.

Check the eligibility rules, shortlist the platforms that take your file, then produce once for all of them.

Publishing AI-narrated audiobooks: common questions

Short answers for authors. The workbook has the full platform comparison and the checklists.

Which platforms accept AI-narrated audiobooks?

They fall into three groups. Some accept a file you produced, as long as you declare the synthetic narration. Some only generate the audio themselves from your ebook, so your own file cannot be used. And ACX requires human narration unless otherwise authorized.

Can I upload my own AI-narrated file to Amazon or Apple?

No. Amazon Virtual Voice generates the audio from your Kindle ebook, and Apple Books digital narration generates it too, listing the result as Narrated by Apple Books. Neither is a route for uploading narration you produced elsewhere.

Does Spotify accept audiobooks narrated by a digital voice?

Yes. Spotify for Authors accepts audiobooks using digital voice narration. You select that option at upload and Spotify adds a sentence to your description so listeners know. Spotify does not currently pass digital voice titles to its referral partners.

Can I sell a Google auto-narrated audiobook on other platforms?

Yes. Google lets you download the file and sell it elsewhere, provided the audiobook is also for sale on Google Play in every country where it is sold elsewhere, and your Google Play list price is not higher than on any other retail platform.

Do I have to disclose that an audiobook is AI narrated?

On the platforms that accept your own file, yes. Spotify asks you to select a digital voice narration option and labels the listing. Voices by INaudio requires anything made with synthetic speech, voice cloning, or text to speech to be submitted as Digital Voice Narration, and treats misrepresenting it as human narrated as grounds for removal or account action.

Will any aggregator distribute an AI-narrated audiobook for me?

Only within limits. Voices by INaudio accepts digital voice titles from three providers, Google Play Books, ElevenLabs, and Spoken Press, as unmodified packages, and delivers them only to retail partners that accept digitally narrated titles. Check an aggregator’s accepted providers before you choose a production tool.

Is this really free?

Yes. The PDF workbook is free. Enter your email and we send you a download link. You do not need to pay or create a Narration Box account.

Why do I need to fill out the information requested?

We email the download link so it reaches a real inbox and so we know which resources are useful. We only send other emails if you tick the box to receive guides and product updates, and you can unsubscribe from those at any time. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your email address.

Producing the narration too? See how the Studio keeps each chapter in editable blocks, so a text change means regenerating one block rather than the book.
